| To be close to the Sea and the Sky... |
A deep longing has always drawn poets, writers, artists, and people to Provincetown.that special place at the edge of the continent.
Because of that history we have dedicated the Carpe Diem Guesthouse to the "Dead Poets" inspired by the spirit of magical places like our little sandbar.
In the same tradition, we bring our guests a bit closer to the soul of Provincetown where one can enjoy a unique adventure making life extraordinary.

Breakfast at Carpe Diem
|
Jurgen's homemade German-style breakfast is famous. Out and About referred to it as "Classic American gourmet meets German bounty." Every morning the "family-size" dining table at the Carpe Diem is the meeting place for all guests who like a good cup of coffee and a nice chat with friendly people. You will always find homemade breads, bagels, croissants, muffins, cakes, cereals, fresh fruit, yogurts, jams, cold cuts such as Prosciutto and cheese, orange juice, fresh Carpe Diem coffee, and a wide variety of teas. On weekends Jurgen prepares breakfast highlights such as German bread, Belgian waffles, pancakes, quiche, omelets, frittata, or other special treats.
A signature piece of the dining room is the painting "20 of 4". It is a scene from the 1953 motion picture "The Blue Gardenia" by Fritz Lang. Anne Southern is the lady looking over your shoulder while you are having breakfast.but don't let her fool you.The Carpe Diem is a non smoking guesthouse.

Walt Whitman 1819 - 1892
Walt Whitman began his career as a teacher in the one-room school houses of Long Island. He continued to teach until 1841, when he turned to journalism, founded a "free soil" newspaper and continued to develop his unique style of poetry.
In 1855, Whitman took out a copyright on the first edition of Leaves of Grass, which consisted of twelve untitled poems and a preface.
Whitman struggled to support himself through most of his life. In the early 1870s, Whitman settled in Camden, Maine, to prepare the 1882 publication of Leaves of Grass and his final volume of poems and prose, Good-Bye, My Fancy (1891). After his death on March 26, 1892, Whitman was buried in a tomb he designed and had built on a lot in Harleigh Cemetery.
