Carpe Diem Guesthouse and Spa Reopens June 8th
Throughout recent months we have dreamed of the day we could travel once again, to enjoy a change of scenery, fresh ocean air, wide open spaces, and reunions with friends and loved ones. We have been working hard to create a way for guests to begin venturing from their homes and into a beautiful environment where moments of connection and restoration can be safely enjoyed.
Carpe Diem Guesthouse and Spa will be opening on June 8th as per the plan by the government of Massachusetts. We are looking forward to welcoming old friends back, and to introduce ourselves to new guests. Provincetown is here and welcomes you, though this summer will be different than years before. Businesses will be open to the degree allowed by law, though in modified ways. Yet, our beaches remain for all to enjoy, the trails are open, the glory of nature remains, and all of it is waiting here for you.
Carpe Diem is fortunate in that twelve of our eighteen guest rooms have separate outdoor, private entrances for our guests, with most having their own outdoor areas. Our Henry David Thoreau Cottage, in particular, has its own fenced off back patio area.
We want to reassure you that Carpe Diem is doing all it can to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. We are adhering to the guidance of leading health experts, government rules and the advice of medical professionals. Our already exacting standards of cleanliness and health are being enhanced in the following ways:
- We are offering contactless check-in for our guests
- No one will have access to your room after it has received a thorough cleaning by our staff. This means that we will not be offering daily room service (per the new standard of hotels nationally), though guests may always have fresh towels and other necessary service if an issue comes up.
- Extra cleaning will be done on high contact surfaces, such as light switches, door handles, remote controls, and more, using CDC recommended cleaning products. We have also ordered an electrostatic sprayer to more effectively cleanse the room in general.
- Non-essential items will be removed from the rooms.
- There will be increased cleaning in all public areas.
- All staff will be masked and gloved.
- Doors will be kept open as much as possible to eliminate the need for contact.
- As ever, all linens and towels will be subject to high temperature washing using approved cleaning products.
- All employees will be symptom screened and temperature checked daily, and asked to remain home before arrival if they feel unwell.
We will continue to monitor all government and medical recommendations and guidance for health and safety as these develop in the future.
We do need to make some other changes in our traditional operations. We will still provide a choice of breakfast, either our special or eggs-to-order, but we will not be providing a buffet. Guests are invited to enjoy their breakfast in their room, or in our expansive courtyard which offers ample opportunity to maintain social distancing. We will not, per current guidance, be offering our wine and cheese social, but are looking into serving a dinner option cooked up by our chef, Sophia, in the same manner as our breakfast. This may all change over the summer as more advanced guidance is available.
We anticipate Namaste Spa will be able to offer the majority of its body services, but the facilities will be accessible only as guidance allows. Some will no doubt be available.
Carpe Diem Guesthouse and Namaste Spa look forward to seeing you in the months ahead, where you can come and join us in relaxation, an enhanced health and safety program, and our spacious grounds to offer you an escape from the worries of the world.
All the best,
Stephen and Paul
COVID - 19 Update
In this challenging and uncertain time, we wanted to give you a message of reassurance that Carpe Diem Guesthouse and Spa is here to meet your needs.
As the situation and information available evolves over the next month, we will continue to update our policies and procedures to follow the best information possible. The guidance of state and local health authorities will guide all that we do.
Carpe Diem Guesthouse has always prided itself on the level of cleanliness we provide to our guests. In response to current events we are going above and beyond to ensure a safe and welcoming environment, and to reduce the chance of transmission.
The operation of the Inn and Spa will be modified based on the latest information to provide safety to our guests and our staff. As you know, most of our rooms have separate, outdoor entrances. For those rooms in the main house, we are closing some rooms to give greater distance between guest rooms. Changes will be made to all food services as we see necessary, and to daily housekeeping practice.
As to the spa facilities, we are evaluating on a weekly basis based on information available from health authorities what facilities and services are safe to offer to our guests.
Please watch this page as we update it based on the latest information. Carpe Diem Guesthouse and Spa is committed to your comfort, safety, and to providing a safe and relaxing haven here in a quiet corner of the world!
As to Provincetown, all of the natural world is unchanged. Our beaches, nature trails, and bike trails will all be open as normal. In discussions with other businesses in town we have been assured that almost ALL plan to reopen this season, with modified practices to ensure your safety and provide a wonderful experience. Provincetown will be different this year, but its warm welcome will still be here to greet you.
In terms of reservations, we will still be maintaining policies we’ve had for many years, but have added extra protections for our guests as developments in the situation occur. As you may imagine, this is a challenging moment for Carpe Diem as well, and we ask our guests to keep up to date on the situation before making changes to your plans. While normally some key weeks have non-refundable deposits, this year we are making it possible to roll those deposits over to a future stay, and we ask guests with other dates to consider doing so as well. Guests who roll over their stay into the future will receive a 10% discount on that stay as our thanks to you for supporting us in a difficult year.
We will also be sending out information to our guests and subscribers to our newsletter with more updates on what we are doing to make this a special season.
Thank you, and we look forward to welcoming you all this summer!
