Oscar Wilde Room

Windows on three sides bathe the room in sunlight, and bring in wonderful Cape Cod summer cross breezes. Because of the openness towards the outdoors and the leafy surroundings of the neighborhood backyards, guests at our Provincetown inn once dubbed it "the tree house". Vaulted ceilings, a queen-size bed, fireplace and a private balcony facing the gardens and the Pilgrim Monument make this nickname even more appropriate.

Writer Bio

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”

 —Oscar Wilde

As Provincetown is home to many gays and lesbians and is a major destination for gay travel, it is only logical that we include one of the most famous gay poets and writers in history at our guest house inn. Oscar Wilde was an outspoken and flamboyant man who was ahead of his time. Wilde bucked the conventions of the Victorian era with his hedonistic lifestyle, and while it may have inspired or contributed to his fantastic literary works such as, "The Importance of Being Earnest" and "An Ideal Husband", it put him at odds with many individuals in English society, one result of which was a term spent behind bars.
